Me, in the middle of the night, very soon after The Hubs and I married: “Babe, wake up. You’re snoring.”
The Hubs, without hesitation: “How do you know it was me?” I can’t type an eye roll big enough.
And that was the beginning of the snoring, the relentless sarcasm and the unexpected things he says when anything wakes him up from a dead sleep.
We’re all a little like that when we fall asleep in our faith, too, aren’t we? We tend to fade out of our relationship with God when our lives get busy. And then, when something startles us awake (usually in the form of a painful conflict or scary news), we might just say something that doesn’t make any sense. We might blame God or question his love for us because we’d been napping through life rather than studying and abiding in his word. We’re caught off guard.
Stay close to God so your naps are short and you have praise on your tongue when you wake. And let’s all say a prayer, for the sake of my bed fella, that God appreciates groggy sarcasm. I do not, see, but we can hope God does.
I’m actually completely kidding. Sarcasm is my favorite form of communication outside of chitchat over snacks. And The Hubs is pretty darn funny when he’s groggy or wide awake. So, just completely disregard everything I wrote. Just carry on. You’re doing fine.
